For certain types of broadband connections ISP tend to send authorized engineers to do that for you. Let us consider most common procedures for different types of broadband connections.
ADSL
Setting up ADSL broadband connection is quite easy, ISP’s send engineers to set up ADSL connections very rarely and only on specific request of the user. What you need to do is plug in the splitter / micro filter at the phone plug in your home and before any other device; with a phone extension cord you can connect your modem or router to your splitter / micro filter. Modem should then be plugged into your computer through the USB port, if however you are using a router, connect your router to the LAN card of your computer using a LAN cable. Once you have connected the devices properly you can use the installation CD and start it. The installation process should not take longer than 10-15 minutes, just follow the step-by-step wizard until your installation is complete. If you have installed your device properly you can start using your broadband connection. For any problems or difficulties you can contact your ISP technical support line and they will surely help you with it.
Cable
The cable broadband connection set up process is very similar to ADSL and thus easy to complete. All you need to do is connect the Cable to your router or modem and then connect that device to your computer. The modem will be connected by the USB port whereas the router should be connected with a LAN cable to the LAN card of your computer. Start the installation CD and follow the steps. Once the software installation is done, you will be able to access the Internet.
Wireless and Satellite broadband
Installation of these two types of broadband is somewhat more complex than the set up of ADSL or Cable Internet. Your ISP will send a trained engineer to your home or office to set up your connection. The engineer will set up and test your connection within a few hours and show you how to use it.
Mobile broadband
Once you have purchased your Mobile broadband package you will receive your USB dangle. Only thing you need to do now is plug it in your computer’s USB port. As soon as it is plugged in the automatic installation will commence. Follow through the step by step wizard and within a few minutes you will be online. However if you are planning to share your broadband connection you will have to acquire a router from your provider. Routers for mobile broadband have not been standardized yet, thus it is strongly recommended to ask your ISP for one or to advise you on where to buy it in order to avoid spending money on something that might not work with your connection. Once you acquire your router plug in the dongle in it and access the Internet by your wireless LAN that should set up automatically.
